It seems that I've settled into this particular way of handling and using the Painter brushes:

I basically don't use any preset brushes or custom brushes the same way twice. I find myself improvising as I work, tweaking the brushes as I see needed. I constantly turn up and down resaturation, bleed, feature, various expression properties..etc while I work. I never felt like there was one brush variation worth saving, so the next I use that brush again, it'll be with totally tweaked settings.

Is this a back-assed way of working? I really don't know, but right now I feel pretty comfortable with it. I actually find making these tweak decisions on the fly more fun than having a bunch of brushes with defined setting unchanged.

a way of working is good as long you feel comfortable with and produce good things i'd say

i have one of those brushes, too. i call it free brush as it changes to whatever i need at the moment.
but i do have a lot of selfmade brushes. most of them are results of the free brush set to some variants i like a lot.
mostly, these are quite "general" brushes like pencils or something like that...

sounds good luna... if you're not comfortable then it's no point in sticking with something... plus you'll probably learn more and get more versatility then somebody who just uses the predefined ones...

personally I can't figure out painter for shite, so I just use it for sketching. =)
