I'm wondering (and yes, I've done a search on this but I didn't found anything worthwhile) how, when, were and why some of you use the lasso tool in PS? I've heard that both eyewoo(aka fleabrain) and Capt.Flushgarden use it, but I myself have a hard time thinking of a reason to do so... I know that its used to make selections, but then what? |

For myself it is a good way to remove colors that bleed too much, or to sharpen edge that are too smooth with brushes (especcially when working with the aero brush and a wacom pen ).
I used it a lot on my last picture and is is a great tool! |

Yepsir... the lasso tool is one of my most used. I've got a pretty good tutorial that explains why on my website...

Eyewoo: when looking at your tutorial, I can't help thinking that it would actually be easier just to use the pencil tool for those actions. The result in the tutorial is very nice but I can't really see why you would need to use the lasso tool. |

Keep in mind that the lasso tool is nothing by itself. All I can say is try it... use it with the adjustment tools, LEVELS, CONTRAST, COLOR BALANCE... and keep in mind that when you have an area lasso'd, the associated quick mask becomes a very useful place to feather, draw, erase, modify in any number of ways before using any of the adjustment tools.
When you've worked out your main processes and then created actions for them, you'll find the lasso tool quite useful and quick to use...
To my way of thinking, it's one of the essences of the digital media - understanding how to use it is essential to understanding how to use the digital media for its own strengths rather than trying to simulate traditional media.
