<---First of all check out that member rating! Well, I think there's enough room for both. The obvious advantages of vector work is that it downloads quickly and enriches websites visually without a lot of concern for file size and whatnot. Of course another advantage of the tiny file size is that the room that you save can be invested in motion graphics and sound. Flash is what we're talking about here and I like flash, I love it in fact and I actually enjoy combining bitmaps and vector graphics. I am teaching myself how to do this more effectively. You can see what I did on the front page of http://www.wienerbot.com also if you click on gamelan in the menu you can see a little synergy there. I think that for the most part illustration in the traditional sense should be used only when absolutely neccessary but there is a lot that you can do without illustrating that serves as visual ornamentation and doesn't really distract from the relevant information too much.

Mr 8 bits...
Yup! Vector artwork... Here's a couple I did a number of years ago in CorelDRAW! Clicking on them shows a detail of each.
You can upload your vector artwork by first converting it to a JPEG file... It's not vectore then, but the image should look pretty much the same...

My teacher has a thing about us working only in vector... go figure!?!?!?! Anyways up to page 4 is my vector work. A lot of them were just practice (so I found pics off the net or out of book to practice doing vector on so I don't know where all the ref pics are after my comp crashed at school.) and the rest are just school work stuff and yes I know most are overlay (whatever) but that's how the teacher told us to do it. "I think there's something wrong with how my instructor is teaching us how to do most of these things, but you have to understand it's commercial art and advertising not fine art classes..."

Pix,
Un-eliteness??? Actually, basic knowledge
There are two primary types of computer graphics - bitmap based images and vector based images. Most graphics programs deal with one or the other... for example, Adobe's bitmap program is Photoshop... it's vector program is Illustrator.
A bitmap program uses a matrix of tiny colored dots to create a picture. The only way to separate the elements of a bitmap picture is to put them on separate layers.
A vector based program uses math formulas to describe lines and curves between nodes or points where a line begins or ends. Each group of connected nodes is a separate object... and there can be many objects on a single layer.
The strategies for creating artwork with bitmaps or vectored images is really quite different. Each has its own strengths and failings.
