Everyone should try this old master medium it is one of the more demanding drawing mediums since it requires TOTAL concentration at all times. Here's what you need:
a mechanical pencil lead holder, berol makes a good one
a peice of silver or gold wire that will fit into the holder.
a file to sharpen it.
Shiva Casein medium, titanium white
Matte Boards, white acid free
To prepare your surface you need to dilute the casien medium to a light cream consistency and with a large brush carefully brush it onto the matte board, this is vital, you need to get a perfectly smooth surface. give it another coat once the first one dries. Then brush the back with water so that the board flattens out. Do all of your matte boards at once so that you don't have to prepare once every time you want to do a drawing. Once you have that done sharpen the silver to a point with your file, but not to the point where you damage the board, then draw. After a few years the silver will oxidize and turn brown. Good luck I hope people try this I'm hooked. |
