I don't know if there's a way to change brush size with hotkeyes. Don't think so.
But hotkeyes for opacity is the numbers 1-0.
For instance:
01=1%
1=10%
44=44%
0=100% |

In Photoshop 5.x you can cycle through your brush palette using the shortcut keys [ and ]. This does not change the size of the brush you have, but if you are smart enough to set up your brush palette in a sensible order then it is a quick and easy way to switch to a larger or smaller brush quickly.
In Photoshop 6.0 the keys [ and ] changed purpose from cycling through the brush palette to actually changing the size of the selected brush. Unfortunately this new method has some problems including the fact that it does not change the size of custom brushes.
Instead, in Phtotoshop 6.0 the hotkeys , and . are used for cycling through the brush palette, a much better option as long as you brush palette has been set up for this purpose.
Recently I have developed an assortment of various mulit-sized custom brushes for use in the studio I work in. For an example of how I created a milti-sized watercolour brush, download this custom brush palette: http://www.tbns.net/rdgraffix/Watercolour_Brushes.ABR
It has been created for Macs, so if anyone knows if the filename needs to be changed for PCs please let me know as I hope to make all my custom brush creations available for download when I update my site.
As you will see, in Photoshop 6.0 the hotkeys "," and "." cycle through the sizes set up for this custom brush but the keys "[" and "]" do not affect them.
One thing to note is that if you resize a non-custom brush in Photoshop 6.0 with [ or ] it forgets the brush's relative position in the palette, rendering the keys , and . useless untill you manually select another brush from the palette to give it a reference point. Because of annoying things like this I try to avoid using [ and ] at all, relying solely on a cleverly constructed brush palette and the hotkeys , and . to let me change sizes easily.

I heard from an old thread that in Photoshop 5.x, you could resize custom brushes using the [ and ] keys but this feature was removed in Photoshop 6.0. I finally got my hands on 5.5 and tried this out but the [ and ] keys are only "next brush" hotkeys and don't actually resize the brush... my question: is there a way to actually resize the brush with a hotkey? or do i have to make brushes with different sizes and then use [ and ] to cycle through them? thx!
Also, could anyone tell me the hotkeys for changing brush opacity in ps?

It is possible, but it's a bitch. I haven't spent too much time looking into it but the only way I found to rearrange brushes was to load in multiple copies of the palette you want to rearrange and option-lick on the unwanted brushes, deleting them. This is a long winded and tedious process, especially if you need to totally rearrange the palette but it seems that's how Adobe thinks we want to do it. ![](images/smiles/icon_mad.gif) |

you'd think a program that costs so many hundreds of dollars would have some sort of brush manager. or drag and drop brushes. or the ability to edit custom brushes. same goes for colour swatches...

hey ken, if they did all that then they wouldnt have enough enhancements left for 7.0 in order to charge you a few hundred dollars... again!
I know quite a few software developers and some companies actually do purposely leave out features/updates in one version in order to enhance future versions... jerks ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Better try Painter. It is very easy to resize all of your brushes with hot keys...

If only Painter could be configured to apply colour the same way as Photoshop it would be unstoppable. |

Yeah, Painter's click and drag brush resizing is addictive. My only complaint is it's a 3 key combo now. Something like that needs to be 2. Painter's color palette controls are soooo much nicer too.
Rumor has it that Photoshop 7 will allow the dynamic resizing of custom brushes --something which will be a big boon to digital painters. No word yet on the crappy brush and color palettes though.
