Hey guys, quick question for all you (anyone?) Geforce3 or ATI Radeon 8500 owners out there reguarding dual monitors:
what is the max res you can set on your vid card on each monitor? do these cards finally allow independent res settings? Are you stuck at the same res for each monitor?
I have a GeForce2MX with dual mon outputs but the thing cant handle 1600x1200 on the 21" and 1024x768 on the 17" at the same time, i get a lower res across the board so its useless. My Mac has no problem becuase it has two video cards. I'm hoping that this new wave of boards works better! |

Heh, Geforce3 doesnt have a dual monitor mode. I have a Matrox G450 and it can run up to 2048x1536 32bit and 1600x1200 32bit on the 2nd at 85hz on both. YAY KARAMBA
Oh yeah, as far as i know, radeon and matrox support different setting on each. The Geforce4 mx420-440 will be the same. |

thanks for the info! actually many of the GeForce3 cards DO support dual monitor, its just that you need to convert the digital out to an analog out with a simple attachable converter.
I'll take a look at that Matrox badboy! thanks |

The GForce3 is merely a chip and thus, therer are many board manufacturers out there for it. The Radeon 8500 DM vidcard is made entirely by ATI. If I had to choose, I'd go with an Radeon 8500, simply because I get better image quality from my Radeon 64 than my ASUS GF3. As for resolution, I think that might be more your monitors' doing... I could be wrong on this... Any other takers? |

I have a dual monitor setup (using 2 separate cards). My monitors don't really support all the resolutions my video card can dish out...
The resolution you're able to see is the highest that can commonly be displayed by both your monitor and graphics adapter. |
