Hey guys, I got the program deep paint, which has some good qualities, but i was wondering if any of you have used it and Painter ( which i don't have) and which one you think is best?

correct me if im wrong ..

deep paint .. heh .. and painter both = trying to simulate natural media.
which one is better, i honestly don't know..

but i'm guessing they are good enough for a budding artist...

it shouldnt matter if you buy a 2 dollar pencil, or a 100 dollar pencil..fact is they're both pencils and if you cant draw, getting the 100 dollar one doesnt make you a better drawer.

Correct ME if i'm wrong, but Deep Paint [with texture weapons] is program similar to ZBrush. It's cheesy tho. And then Deep Paint [the Adobe Photoshop plugin] is like Painter inside PS.

I used Deep Paint, and it's like a simpler version of Painter. I like Painter better because it's more powerful. Deep Paint is pretty good for its price though. You can get the same results with Deep Paint, but Painter offers more choices.

Hello Kad,

Painter requires less memory than deep paint or at least it did a year ago. Both programs have excellent drawing tools. I have to add that Photoshop is also more than adequate even though the tools don't have as many parameters.

Oh and evil toylet, that may be true with pencils.. but in digital media the program can make all the difference. Cause if your theory is true than all of us should have saved our money on Adobe and just used Microsoft Paint . :P

I got some nice effects out of Deep Paint. But the tools seemed clumsy. I was wondering if Painter had a better feel to it. Deep Paint seems complicated when i dont need it to be and too simple when i want more options. i also cant get the washed out looks in photoshop that i want. i really like the watercolor look, but cant find a tool in photoshop that will do watercolor.

Heres a sample that i did in Deep Paint ( the background was painted using the watercolor brushes and the tower was done in photoshop. its not finished).

Painter will give you freedom to do what ever you want. You can create new brushes or palettes. With Painter 7 you can turn off sections that you don't use all the time which saves you screen space. With each version of Painter they are working to get where you can move between Painter and Photoshop easily also.
