Whenever I do painting 100% in a program such as painter 6 or photoshop, it seems that the print comes out real blotchy. How do you prep a digital painitng for printing when the painting has been done in a program and resolution often changes while printing?
I thought I read something about this a while back but loss track of where...any links would be helpful

I know you are not stupid but I only know basic stuff and this helped me. (sorry if its TOO basic)
My printer is a pretty damn cheap Canon S600. It is decent and I actually like the results from it, you didn't say what you are using or if you are getting it done more professionally. Either way check and see if you are doing this...
-are you printing at at least 300 resolution? I did a print of one of my paintings at 72 and 300 and at 72 it was butt ugly but 300 made it look as crisp as day.
-paint in double the resolution you need, then size it down for print. The detail compresses together and makes things much more crisp.
-print from the original .PSD uncompressed. or whatever painters format is.
Doing those 3 things for me solved my problems and I got some decent results. I am sure there is more advanced stuff you can do, I just don't know it. Maybe someone else can give it a shot
::edit:: And don't forget to use a heavier matte or glossy photo paper. whatever your preference is.

Thanks xXx
when it comes to printing digital art and color management nothing is too basic for me.
I do have a decent printer (HP deskjet 932 c) for starting out anyway. The other day I tried to print out a painting of mine that was at least a 300 res and it still looked like a 72 dpi print. Maybe I am over looking something. I NEVER have that problem when I scan in a pencil drawing and paint it in a program and then print it, just when I do a painting 100% in painter or photoshop is where I have the printing problem.
Thanks for the help, I'll try making sure I have followed all these steps.
Peace
