hey all.. i was thinking of trying to get into the business of selling paintings.. catch is i like doing paintings of women, good looking women in particular.
as is the case there arent so many around here for me to just pay them to model for a fee i would consider reasonable.
so my next theory was to use photographs of various models, and thats where i assume it gets tricky, since these photographs are copyrighted, and blah blah.
so im curious how much of a change is needed to be able to call the image my own and be legally in the clear when and if i sell one.
i asked around a lil and i heard that 70% has to be changed, and the person has to not be recognizable as the one in the photo.
the thing that is messing me up is the 70% how the hell do you just something that has been changed by 70%
i think im fairly decent but i cant copy something precisely.. so me being a smartass would assume that while im painting it it has changed nearly 100% and that the only thing left would be for me to make the face diffrent from the actual model in question..
would anyone care to enlighten me on this subject..
i wish i was good enough to paint people without any reference.. but im not. |

You have to remember that not only are those images copyrighted, but they are a form of art in their own medium, and shouldn't be used to create profits for someone other than the original photographer and model. Your best bet really is to go and look for a model. I've heard rumors of this, but I'm not sure if it's true, but try to look for modelling websites, where you can pay some sort of fee for either custom poses, or the right to use a model's work as a resource. In short, stealing without permission=bad ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

hmm point well made.. still problem unsolved..
what about those porn companies that sell image sets of their models i know you can buy them and their contract gives you permission to use and modify their image. think that would be a loophole to avoid having to hunt for a models? |
