Im sorry for the outside link, but It's the only hosting I have at the moment.
I came home one day and my monitor was like this
Screen Shot
Without warning or provocation. (If the image is unclear, I'm getting horizontal bars across from all the objects on my screen.) I've tried altering resolutions, refresh rates, that moire crap that hurts my eyes, I've even tried smacking the monitor. If you've encountered this phenomenon before, help me out. The monitor is only 2 years old, so I would have a hard time believing something has blown out on it, but it becoming very difficult to work...
toodles

I'd like to say that it's possibly even more frustrating to sit and paint hair for two hours and have it turn out great, and then get that gods forsaken scratch disk error in photoshop, meaning you can't do absolutely anything about it... you can't save your image, you can't paint any more... you can't even make a selection... all you can do is start over.
THAT's frustrating... especially when it happens as often as it does. grr.
anyone know how to fix that btw? |

i have had this problem belive it or not i managed to fry two monitors in three months, and when i got my third it was like this after i formatted my pc. the problem was i was using the wrong graphics adapter. thry changing that to a slightly lower one. it worked for me, but im not the one to blame if you loose and arm and a leg because your computer explodes |

y'know - that screenshot actually could pass as a splash page for some 'hip and funky' digital art website. |

Strata: I feel for you, really. Except that has never happened to me... so...
Razzak: That may be the problem, I'll try it out. But I don't understand why it would happen all of the sudden after two years problem free on the same system it's on now.
Smalbrain: You're on crack But least I'm hip and funky. |

that's sad. i know what you must feel like. last winter, we had snow and ice (as usual in winter) and i was on a lan. back at home, i carried my computer in my house. the last thing i carried was my monitor. i slipped and fell. i managed to land in a half-sitting pose with the monitor lying on my chest. then i realized, i will completely fall back when i don't put my arms behind me. i did. and i let the monitor go, it slowly rolled off me and onto the asphalt street. since these days,. this monitor shows a little "scar" in the middle of the screen.
hell, i can tell you... that was one of the most cursed moments in history.
sorry for you, i don't have any idea that could help with your problem. |

Yep, that happened to me, exactly like that, everything streaking horizontally, no warning, just BANG - not only inside windows, but from startup right?
It happened on a computer that was still in warranty - less than one year old -so I first exchanged the monitor (well the support guy's idea), that didn't help so I got a new video card and that helped. Still don't know exactly what was wrong.

If you can, drag your monitor over to your friend's house and see if it works all right there. If everything seems ok, it's probably your display adapter. I don't think it's a driver or system issue. By the way, 2 years unfortunately isn't a very long and reliable life span for a computer these days... an upgrade is most likely due anyways. Fate is giving you a shove... ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Im not sure if an upgrade is due, I have an AMD anthlon 700 mHz, 256 ram pc 133, geforce v6600, generic soundblaster model (I think 128 MB) and a 40 gig harddrive, 40x CD-Rom. And now a streaky 19 monitor that cost me 600 bucks when i got it... It's not the greatest thing in the world, but I bought it for video games when I was 17. OH well, I'm coping, I've managed to set all my display as monotone as possible, it cuts down on the streakiness
Sorry to hear about your monitor gekitsu, that sucks.
I might try that haul my monitor to the neighbours thing...
thanks for responding.
