Strange thing in Photoshop happened to me several times now, maybe it has happened to you?
I have 1.5GB of ram and allocate 90% to PS witch shows up as 1229M in the Scr: block at the bottom left edge next to the zoom lvl. Anyway, when I open this pic and edit that Scr: block will fall to 1081M for no apparent reason. It doesn’t always happen immediately, sometimes it only happens when the image gets to about 1300MB in size or if I save a Full size JPG. (Usually when the Computer is stressed).
Any Ideas? |

yea, it's a pretty simple thing. I don't know whether or not you know this but windows uses vitrual memory, and when windows can't use ram, it has to "make" ram by using vitrual memory (almost excatly what photoshop does) and you(windows automaticly sets this but yuou can change it) has said if I need virtual memory I'll use up to *300mb* it might be differnt, and so when your using photoshop and your also doing something else (or you havn't rebooted in a while) windows starts runnig out of actual ram and starts using the virtual memory, and following the mircosoft spirit they just take whatever they need, even if some of it belongs to photoshop.
Alright that was pretty ctrazy and I don't blame you if you don't understand, but in summary, theres nothing wrong with your comp, and unless windows is crashing all the time during stress you don't have to change anything, if it is you need to lower the amount of virtual memory that photoshop is allowed to use. |
