i listen to a lot of different stuff.
while i'm just sittin around i listen to Ja Rule, Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Jay-z, Jennifer Lopez, Janet Jackson (both old and new stuff), some sounds of nature, and classical music.
when i'm drawing i usually listen to Final Fantasy music. I like the classical sound it has. I also listen to some "real" classical music, like Mozart. But i prefer the modern composers more... I think Uematsu has a lot more emotion in his music than Mozart does. He does everything from strings, piano's, and he's even done some nice "punk rock" stuff. That man is very talented.
But yeah, i prefer stuff without lyrics and that produces more thoughts, i guess.

btw, if you don't believe me and think "what the heck? it's VIDEO GAME MUSIC!" go on something like Napster (i use limewire) and download:
Final Fantasy world of ruin (very depressing song)
Final Fantasy Eyes on Me (love song)
Final Fantasy Blue Fields (makes me think of big open fields... really soft song)
Chrono Cross End Theme (nice little guitar song, although the lyrics are japanese)
Chrono Cross Time's Scar (kind of soft in the beginning with the wind instruments, then gets really intense)
Chrono Cross Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World (i know, long name in english... i really like the sound though, it's really mysterious. i LOVE this song.)
chrono Cross overworld theme (i dunno, i just think this little tune is really nice, i dunno what i like about it though)
Chrono Cross Fragments of a Dream (really soft... kind of sad)

just some recomendations... check them out

I have a 10 hour playlist with about 50-60 different artist on it. I use music as a control when I'm Drawing. Mostly it just facilitates the void in my inspiration. If get stuck I can zone out for a few seconds and reboot to some good tunes. Needless to say, when I'm sketching I'm not really paying attention to the ambient noise, it's just there for comfort. Anything that feels fun, is ok with me

Buh Bye!

my personal favoirte for working, is music by "the dust brothers" mostly the fight club soundtrack. I also listen to heavy metal when I'm drawing. And when I'm doing retoching and stuff mostly house and rave and backround music, that kind of thing.

I'm with Lotekk on this one, Tristania is one really cool band! Nightwish, Sins of thy Beloved, and Within Temptation are all really cool as well. Though for some odd reason I really prefer to listen to Enya instead when I'm drawing.

I've got about 15 hours of trance/techno stuff (read: crap) that I listen to, also I like Celtic music when I'm drawing happy things since it's very soft and moody. The lord of the rings sound track, and also 13th Warrior sound track are nice and dark and have a epic feel to them.

Also the Chrono Cross sound track rocks. I haven't checked out the final fantasy one, but I will.

(I've been getting back into oldskool metal; Testament, Anthrax, Exodus, Voivod, etc... ah, yeah, I'm old.)

Hey Liser, I have have a bunch of Final Fantasy 7 songs and song from Chrono Cross also. They are really nice to listen too but sometimes they are too depressing; thats when I load up my 78 hour playlist of Electronic Moozak

Maybe i'm getting older but the harder stuff like punk or rock type stuff is just getting a bit oppressive.
To work with I usually have Dead Can Dance or something similar. It's kind of new age like. But it has lots of rythm to keep me awake and nice vocal stuff to make me feel all cheesy and inspired.
Or somitimes I have...
The pogues when I want to sing along about really depressing things in a happy irish tune. The "grab a pint and sing with us in the pub" feeling.
Bauhaus when I am feeling whacky, insane, superwacky, superinsane....
