i have a question about using hard brushes in PSP and PS... generally i see a lot of artists like craig mullins use hard edged brushes to do their paintings... now, i attempt to use hard edges, but unless my "steps" setting is at around 5, i don't get a smooth line with anything less than 50% "softness"... problem is, if i have my steps setting that low, my large brushes (say, more than size 50) lag like hell, making it just about impossible to paint effectively... now, is there any way around this, or do i have to get a faster computer (i'm using a P3 850mhz)?

thanks

well, you can paint your general big shapes in a very small image then resize it bigger to work out all the details.

good one... i hadn't thought of that... however, there's one thing: sizing it up softens the edges... i guess i'll have to make do til i find something better but what about others? do you just have massively faster computers?

i have 128 on this computer (it's supposed to be bumped up to 512 by now, but the ram i bought seems to be defective or something, so i'm in the process of getting that replaced...)
however, the brush lag with large brushes isn't due to lack of ram, as far as i can tell... even when there's no hard disk access for virtual ram, i still get the lag... of course, this is more pronounced when i start running short of memory... :/

youd be amazed at what ram can do. even if photoshop isnt accessing the scratch disk, it still fills that ram fast. you will notice a difference with more. that sucks that you got some defective stuff. just be patient, more ram will really help a lot.
