Lately, solely due to the artists and minds of this board, I've been driven to draw. I don't think I've ever been so damned inspired. But lately, I have also noticed that I know absolute jack about the human anatomy. Numerous drawings I just can't finish because I can never get them to look quite right. It is a problem that I have had for years and I can finally pin-point the reason, now I need some help pin-pointing the solution.
So, I was wondering if I can get a link or two to some good anatomy tutorials. Any help would be really appreciated. ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Hello there ...
Anatomy is best learned from nature, if you do not have access to art schools who have skeletal reproductions and live models ...
Books would be second best, and better than webpages I think, unless you have plenty of computer screen real estate available while you work. There are so many books about anatomy that it is hard to choose, I would go for one with large full page illustrations specifically intended for artists, and one copy of just general anatomy ( like Grays Anatomy mentioned below ) for some reason they are usually dirt cheap, some cost about 10-15 US$.
One school I went too, even had a day visit in a research institute, having looks at people who had donated their bodies to science, pretty damn interesting I think, looking at real people suspended in formaldehyde in big glass tanks. I know a few people who would refuse to set foot in that place, including my wife.
Anyways, enough waffle ...
Here are som links :
Anatomical.com
Wiley Anatomy
Common anatomy terms good for description in crits you may get later ...
Reference heaven - not just anatomy, loads of great references ..
Leonardos anatomical drawings - essential for the artist ..
THE reference of references ... Grays Anatomy
The Hosford Muscle Tables
Hope that was helpful ... ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

An exercise you could do is to take a small plastic skeleton model and recreate the musculature using clay or super sculpey. |
