my friends father has been letting me tool around with his copy of 3ds, and while i've got (very) basic modeling and animation figured out, i'm still very bad at lighting and texturing. i want to know how to make things look more realistic .. does anybody know where i can find some tutorials on it?

Well, I am probably at exactly the same level as you with max4... but err.. probably a bit lower!

I also dont have any idea what to do with the lighting and texturing.

this may be a bit advanced but..
