Hey guys, I'm on a college hunt and the guidance at my high school hasn't been very helpful. I wanted to stay close to Connecticut and the schools I've found are the School of Visual Arts, Parson's School of Design, Pratt School of Art and Design, and Rhode Island School of Design. I'm looking to go into game development, 3D modeling/animation, and maybe special effects for movies. Any suggestions? Any help is appreciated

When i was at your stage my guidance wasn't very helpful either. In fact they were guiding me into traditional art direction which i didnt want to know about. I couldnt find any computer art colleges in my own state (NJ) but i found an excellent school in North Carolina which is NC School of Communication Arts, which is where i'm going unless i find a job before that ehehe.
It's focused on many aspects of computer like 3d, 2d design, movie effects and production, networking = muy bien

i was looking to getting into what you're talking about. there's two options you can really do: go into graphic design and then about halfway through, jump to another college that does what you want. the other option is to go to one of the five schools on the east coast that offer (on the list of majors) computer art as a major. rochester institute of technology is supposed to be really nice for computer art, but i guess it's campus is something to be had. rensellaer is a beautiful school, i recommend it if you're not the kind of guy who's going into college for the social life. savannah in georgia is a really rigorous college that offers computer art, but don't expect to sleep here. . and i applied (early) to hampshire college. hampshire had the relaxed atmosphere, the alternative learning methods, the social life, everything i wanted. two downers? 38 grand a year, which i'm still trying to figure out how to pay for, i'm hopeful they'll give me good aid. second downer? it's alternative. you really have to read up on it. i hear back from them in a couple of days, so that should be cool .. anyway, good luck.

Wow, thanks for the post Mendler.

I had RIT on my list but didn't think I was gonna apply there, but now I think I will.

RPI is definitely not what I want, since my high school social life has been fairly bleak :P
