Hi,
Here's a question to some more experienced matte painters:
When delivering a finished matte painting to the compositor/TD, have there ever been situations when you've had to deliver additional matte passes to help in the grading process?
I've had situations where the compositor has wanted control over certain aspects of the image, and have asked for a 'shadow pass' or the image 'with flat light'. Often these requests occur after the matte painting is completed, and not part of the intial brief.
From a compositors POV these are reasonable requests as they want maximum control over their shot and how it is graded. But from a matte painters POV, sometimes these requests seem ridiculous, especially given that a matte painting isn't generally constructed in the same pass-friendly way a 3D scene is.
If I can provide these elements I do, but I also wonder whether or not this is common experience amoungst other companies or matte painters?
Thoughts and input would be appreciated,
Grant F. |
