So I've decided i'd like to try selling prints of my digital artwork.. and I realise that I know very little about the process right now. I'd love to hear beginners advice from anyone out there who is already doing this sort of thing..

Some specific questions:

1. Do people tend to make their own prints on their inkjets (with high quality glossy paper etc..) or do they have them made by some service?

2. What's the average accepted price range for say, an 8x10 glossy printout of a full-color detailed painting?

3. What about the longevity of the paper / inks (if its printed on an inkjet).. are there some papers (or inks) out there of better archival quality? And do you think the average print buyer worries about this?

4. What are some good venues to advertise prints for sale ? (aside from one's own website) - I've heard that E-bay is good.. any others?

5. What else should i know?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated ... thanks!

I haven't sold any prints, so i can't answer ll those questions, but i can give you a few tip about what i would want if i bought printed images.

First of all, big size. A3 is a little bit too small for a picture to put on your wall. I'd like stuff as big as real paintings!

Then...I'd like them framed and with real signatures. The signature is the most valuable part of a picture. A picasso-painting without signature is as valuable as a painting that any kid painted.

And...Do'nt stick to a raito of 1:Sqrt2 (the raito of the a-series) Do widescreen and narrow stuff.

That's the kind of prints o would like to have on my wall!

Michael,

I'm in the same place... just starting to sell my prints. I purchased an Epson 2000p 13" x 19" archival printer so that I can print my own.

I also started a thread on the subject her on Sijun. Check it out here

Just started selling about a week ago. Have only sold one, and that was to a close relative...:/

My only outlet at the moment is my website at www.eyewoo.com

Hoping it'll pick up... in the next year or so (yup, year or so! ... gotta be realistic, eh!) null
