i�m an idiot too, but i believe matte means touching up an existing picture, like what i�m doing with the rebecca image in WIP. Am i right about this people? |

maybe he means matte paintings. which used to be very large paintings on glass used as backgrounds for film, but nowadays done digitally...
he couldnt actually mean the definition of the word matte, could he? thats what dictionary.com is for. |

If you're talking about a matte painting....
A matte painting is the type of painting done for the backgrounds of a movie.

well he asked the same question in the MATTE CUBES thread so i was thinking he didnt know what MATTE was..
a MATTE CUBE would be a Dull rough surface cube.

referring to film, a "matte" can be a painted background just like the ones loki does. traditionally a matte was used to cover certain parts of a film for special effects [like bluescreening]...
matte as a adjective is a description for a surface with the opposite quality to "shiney"
