I just returned from a quick 2 day trip to Hollywood, CA. I was doing some contract work installing a digital photo system, and training the staff of the store.
While I was there I decided to check out Gnomon3d, which is basically a trade school where they teach you 3d software packages(namely Maya), animation, and some traditional courses as well.
See http://www.gnomon3d.com
Anyway........
As the training progressed the owner of the company was highly impressed with me(as people usually are ) and offered me a job running/managing his store for him.
If I take the job, I could get a formal education(albeit an expensive one) at Gnomon with the possibility of some training at the LA Art Center.
Pay is pretty good for a dude my age, 22,[40k + 1%gross sales], but it means I'd have to relocated from Las Vegas, to Hollywood, and pay outrageous rent, tolerate low-lives asking for change/food/drugs/your wallet every 10 feet.
The job is something I've done before, just not as a manager, so I know in some small part what Im getting into, but I wanted to know what you guys thought.
I need to give him an answer in a week. |

Do it. Low-lifes are part of the inescapable charm of Hollywood. |

Not only should you take advantage of Gnomon, but you should also take advantage of some excellent traditional schools like Art Associates and California Art Institute.
They offer excellent instruction for an unbeatable price. |

Scooby Doo, you must be talking about Alex Alvarez. Art Center, Art Associates and Gnomon kick ass. Associates is really the school I keep hearing about and I go to Art Center. It's the poormans Art Center(because it's less expensive but the faculty is just as if not more badass).Anyways this sounds like an excellent opportunity for you and if you don't want to live in HELL.-A., move next door to Pasadena or Burbank. There are tons of other cities and places where you don't have to deal with lowlifes asking for change/food/drugs/your wallet and they aren't that expensive, you just have to look. L.A. is 10 mins. away on the (110) from Pasadena, I should know because I take it all the time. Hope that helps. |

Go for it man, even if you don't go to school you get the unbeatable opportunity of writing manager on your cv which rings pretty high in anyones eyes, especially if you didn't even advance within the company. |

Ah...to be 22 again, and to have an opportunity such as yours. Don't let the offerings of life pass you by; take a chance!
What would happen if you didn't try? You'd sit there, where ever you end up, and mull over what you could've done - but you didn't. Go for it man!! |
