I know that this is a very bad place to post this and that this thread will most likely dissapear fast, but i just have to voice my opinion to the public.

[666]Flat posted a topic with provoking art in the gallery section. Several people claimed that Flat is a moron and the artwork was retarded. Who the hell are you guys to claim what's art and what's not? "Post and view finished artwork here" it say's, Flat did so.

When i first saw the piccie, i became filled with strong feelings and impressions. That's what art is all about, huh? To give us feelings, inspirations and impressions.

So, You should not use missleading words such as "digital art" and "artwork". Art is obviously not welcome in theese forums. What you want is drawings, illustrations and pictures.

My take on this is: At least he drew all his comics, not that they're particularily tasteful, but he drew it. The conversation iw unfunny. I think you can call it a crappy comic, but not a piece of art.

i think it is more his attitude towards other ppl, and his behaviour. if you relate from that to his postings, i can`t see his comics as "art".

You can go on and on all day about what's art and what isn't. The bottom line is this though: this is a forum. A forum run by Dhab who has certain rules and expectations of the artis around here. He has assigned moderators to enforce these rules and keep things running smoothly, which includes closing threads that look like they are building up into flame wars. It's not up to you and I to decide what is appropriate to post here because we aren't the ones that maintain the place.

When people such as [666]Flat post something, it is art at that point. As soon as a another user replies to it with strong negativity, that is when it comes a flame post. So the next time you see a post by someone like Flat, try pointing the fingers at the first reply that starts the flaming, rather than Flat himself.

darnit Frosted, you've ruined my "an ode to poop", my best piece ever! Even superior to my "man on knees with arms and legs which seem to be made out of mashed potatoes". Darn it all!

Hahah, notice how "Norling" just registered like today?

Gee.. who could it be?

Flat's "art", or as I like to refer to it, his "smeared shit on paper" not only offends people, it makes us all less artistic for ever having looked at it.

True, art is in the eye of the beholder, but that certainly doesn't mean that anything that is capable of being seen by other humans can be considered art by any stretch of the imagination.

A dog could take a big shit on some newspaper and think to himself "hey, now, that is one pretty shit", but does that mean that when I walk by his steaming turd, I should pick it up and frame it?

Point being that even a term as loose as "art" has basic building blocks to add to. Some of those include proper judgement, meaning, etc. Flat's work has none of that, therefore I don't consider it to be artwork.

*lol* I'm not flat or his friend...I'm just the defender of artists with individual styles™. My nam is Staffan "Squapper" Norling, here's my site. The simple explanation for my new account is that i registered to reply in Heday's WIP thread. You still think i'm Flat?

I don't ask you to accept any type of art, but please don't flame the artist or say stuff like "that's not art" if you dont like the artwork. Be nice and respect all people.

Yeah, this topic comes up every so often. Truth be told, most people recognize art first as representational stuff, and only think about the other kinds of visual expression later on. I like seeing all the different visual experiments and expressions that people of all ages do. It's as much social science as art. The Lumental Forums were started for the close-minded people who couldn't see beyond their own pencil, and Deviant Art can be a confusing free-for-all. Sijun still sits somewhere in the middle, although leaning a little representational. That's understandable with all the neophytes here. Most people's introduction ot art is through representation, and hopefully they'll go beyond it one day to appreciate all art from Bougereau to Warhol, Diebenkorn to Mullins.

The point is not whether it is art,
Flat was expressing his freedoms by posting his "art" and it happeded to be offensive to many people, and now those many people are expressing their freedom of SPEECH by telling him they are offended. It was offensive art, and we have a right to be offended, flat or his friends should not be mad at the negative comments made.

i think there are a few occasions where this kind of confusion is legitimate.. but you have to look at the person who's posting, and try to understand their motivations.

what makes a person a 'troll' or not is whether they're posting something legitimately, or whether they're posting just to piss people off. hey, if you wanna be really politically correct, you could call that 'performance art' but i don't think its the kind of performance art that's appropriate on a board like this.
