...please, I see alot of people posting drawing they've colored or 'cg'ed, I mean, it sounds silly when someone comes out and says, "Look what I cged!". Isn't the term specifically referring to something created on the computer out of scratch rather than something created by another artist thats been colored in photoshop.I don't know maybe its me but could somebody please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Hahahaha. Yeah it does sound silly! But some people just say it. I don't know the exact definition but I don't think you should worry about it too much, just let it slide.

"cging" is just the verb to cg -> computer grafics. i think it just refers to creating grafics using a computer. in my opinion there isn�t much difference how you do it as long as a computer is involved...

i don�t thinke it�s really a technical term, it�s just a saying like i just "photoshoped" this thing here...

"Letting it slide" is what happens day after day on the internet. The beauty of language slowly gets butchered into little anagrams and code words. Sure, it is useful, but after awhile people do it out of sheer laziness I think. Communication is getting faster, but not necessarily better. I'm not targeting anyone specifically who posts here, but terms like "cging" are a bit silly. Spell out the whole word for a change, you know? What does it take?

err... doesn't CG stand for Computer Generated? 3D people use that word to describe their work. I'd be insulted if someone said my computer painting was CG.

CGI means 'Computer Generated Imagery' and usually refers to 'rendered' forms of computer pictures (3D, fractals etc).

CG means 'Computer Graphics'.

There is certainly cross-over between the two terms (some people say 'CG' and mean 'computer generated' and some poeple say 'CGI' and don't think it means 'generated'), but generally speaking those are the two meanings.

But as jcFIG says, 'CG' is starting to find more general uses too. Like it's becoming similar to the word "colored" - "I cg'd his linework". Launguage is dynamic, but whether this usage will stick remains to be seen.

Wow, I am surprised. I did not think, that you Americans would actually be against akronyms, code words, shortenings and so on. That`s funny, at least I think it is.

I do not care, if you write in these sohort forms, or try to write everything correctly. It is a part of the internet.

i also thought that cg means computer generated but refers to everything concerning artwork that i done with computer support or entirely on comp.

i saw the use of cg too and started to stop calling myself a gfx-person or a graphician (dunno if this word exists in english... its a total-conversion from german) i now call myself a digital painter because it fits my way of working more than something with grafics.
i do not use most of the filters and i normally create *every effect by hand so i see myself more than a (very poor) painter who uses a computer than someone who uses the capabilities of computers like a lot of people that use overlays, texturizing layers, greyscales etc...
