Right now i'm drawing with a mouse, which is like swimming in a tub of molasses, so I've been looking around for Wacom tablet.

Heres the questcion:

Is it worth getting a brand new intuos2 when I can get a double the size Intuos (old) for the same price on ebay...?

Christmas time is around the corner and I was thinking maybe I could drop a couple of hints on "The Bald One."

hey there I saw no one gave you a response yet so I thought I would. Get a Wacom tablet it would be worth it if thats what you're more comfortable doing (drawing) as opposed to ya know swimmin in molasses.

I just have the Graphire and its all I ever needed, its one of my best friends, computer stuff that is.

I would say as long as it's a Wacom just buy it!

I have 4 Wacoms and I love them all.

My 12X12 is an older style,... before the eraser end became available. I bought this years ago when I was doing a lot of Quantel paintbox work. It is very nice and compares to sketching on rough paper for me. (the surface is not perfectly smooth) The downside to this is how much desk space it requires!

My 6X9 is my favorite,... a good balance between the large tablet and having enough desk space for everything else.

I have two 4X5 Wacoms,... one is a new intuos, and the other is an older artpad style,... I like them both the same,... I carry one with my laptop so I can sketch on the go,... but it feels a little cramped. (I doubt I would feel this way if I didn't have the larger tablets though)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that they are all wonderfull,... but my favorite is the 6X9,... new or old doesn't matter too much as the new features don't affect the type of work I do with them.

Personally I feel like it's not the tools, but how you use it. Some artists can be capable of making a masterpiece with a 10 color set of crayolas. I know some people are very sensitive to the materials they use though, and will only buy the best.

I have a tiny graphire and it suits me fine, but I've never had an intuous to compare it to. I know a lot of people say there are tons of benefits to using a giant expensive tablet, but I don't think it's a necessity. It's all in how you use it.

(if it were me though, I would get the new one... simply because I think it's better to keep all your computer parts up to date if possible.)

I have a 6x8 at home and a 4x5 at work, I love them. Has it helped me? a bit, mostly on speed, and comfort - the mouse absolutelly killed my wrist for painting, and the trackball (thumb) wasnt any different. (yep I actually used to paint with a trackball).

I would say that the best size is dependent on your style. Some people love the ultra huge pads, while others like the tiny ones. If you can give one a try...try to find someone around you who owns one and play with it for a bit, but be warned that it migth take you a bit of time to get used to them.

I have a 12x 18. if you are using it to draw and paint then get the largest one you can afford. you will enjoy the sensitivity...I can barely use the small ones now..feels like Im drawing with my thumbs in comparison.

They now have added that worthless mouse you are talking about to the 6x8 intous2 as well.
I think everyone in their office must have paperweigths and doorstops already so they needed to get rid of the surplus

I use a 9x12 Intuos.
In my opinion, it's the best size there is. It gives you a huge amount of work space without being too enormous. The only weird thing about it is that is comes with this extra "4D mouse" thing that is absolutely worthless.
Actually...I think all the Intuos tablets from size 9x12 and up come with that damn worthless mouse.
Anyway.....
Get a 9x12 if you can.

today i get a graphire(oh, a tablet is so fine

) but i have no prob with they size, i reduced it with the software 'cause i don't like long ways(*puuh* if you use it a longer period of time i think it would be hard), also i have set highest speed for my mouse ...

I always wanted to get one of those, I looked around in future shop and they have a 3 i think.

All those tablets suck. Get a Wacom Intuos tablet.
First off, if it doesn't say Wacom on it then don't buy it. I've heard of one of those Dexxa's breaking after just a day of use.
Secondly, if you have to save money go with a Wacom Graphire. BUT, if you can afford it get a Wacom Intuos. You want something that will last and besides, the Intuos is more pressure sensitive than the Graphire.
I've had mine for almost a year and it still works like the day I bought it.

I use a wacom 9 x 12 and love it! Firstly, don't ever use a stylus that has a cord on the pen, it will drive you nuts. Second, size is a relative issue based on how you work. I like to draw with sweeping gesture, so a large tablet works well for me. I've used the small ones, and they work fine, but I just like using the larger ones better. As for old Wacom vs new Intuos , I'd say it's better to get the new one if it has USB and more levels of pressure sensitivity.

AFAIK, the pressure levels of the intous2 are exactly the same as the intous. What I could gather from their info is that they use a more accurate positioning technology, but whether this is just marketing stuff or not, I have no idea. If any of you out there has an intous2 and had a regular one, let us know if theres any noticeable difference

here's my 2c:

look at a lot of your handmade drawing and paintings regarding especcially size. think about the amount of space you like to move your pen easily.
after having these basic thoughts, head for the nearest size intuos.
i work with an intuos 6x8 and it is the best solution for me. (not necessarily for someone else)
in my case, the intuos was bigger than the "normal" size of drawing because most of my drawings are thumbnail size with a lot of useless things around it. i end up making the final drawing not very much taller than a4.
so, the 6x8 is the best solution for me. you have to think about the factor of the zoom tool also. you will be able to draw taller/smaller things at the same size of tablet.

just think about the way you would feel comfortable and buy an intuos that is near to that size.
try to not buy something that comes with more than a pen because it is mostly wasted money.
