Hi all
I'm a CG artist (fulltime) for a gaming company in Western Australia. I do 3d modeling, texturing, level design and concept design. I work with four other artists and we share the above tasks between us.
I am wondering how many of you guys work in the gaming industry and if you are fulltime or freelance. |

3D artist/animator, work in Max mainly.
Circus Freak Studios, broke off from Infogrames.
Silicon Valley.
last finished game was Looney Tunes Racing for PSX.
worked on SF RUSH 2049 before that when i was at Atari.
The Neverhood (the original PC game), did a lot of image-crunching and palletizing (no real art) before that.
Currently working on an X-box title.
that's the dayjob... trying to break into doing some freelance illustration on the side.

You are one busy fellow. Well done. The company I work for is currently working on producing its first title. The gaming industry is thin on the ground in Western Australia. In fact this company is about it right now. I am looking forward to getting the game out there.
After hours I am trying to get back into illustration but just for myself at the moment - not freelancing. Although I suppose I could be persuaded. I am also teaching myself worldcraft and making a counterstrike level just for fun. |

I'm currently doing a Software Development Games course in Brisbane, working on a first person shooter in the Torque Games engine (previously V12 Engine). Looking to dive into the industry end of this year working with a local developer.
Shiro, you with Bungarra? Just curious @:-) |

I am mainly a 2D illustrator for the RPG Gaming industry. Soon to get 3DMax, seems these days you can't even get in as a concept artist without some basic 3D knowledge....
I work on CCGs, interior illustrations, covers for d20s, etc...
Afraid to post anything here cause everyone is so damn good!

I was an art director in games, but now I'm on vacation in China, and will probably get back into games when I return to the U.S.. I do concepts, textures, UI's , and illustrations. Will most likely get into hardcore 3D beyond basic modeling. You kinda need it to remain employed in the biz these days. . .. |

I've done game art for years. Started with 4 non-commercial games, and more recently have been doing the occational freelance work.

Jero, I guess you caught me. I'm trying to break into doing some Freelance CGI Games, I'll have to hit you up for some Max tips, like:
"Which is more versatile to the CGI gaming industry, Max 2 & 3 or 4?" I have read that Max 4 isn't too co-operative to its predacessors.
Shane
PS did you redesign your site? Studio |

I've been doing character conceptual design for a Deus Ex mod .. it might end up being more than a mod and not Deus Ex based.. keep quiet Right now I'm working as an intern on some concept art/2d art at Valve software. It looks like I'm going to be starting 3D art there in the near future.

We use Max 4.something. heh.
I don't know that you're ever going to go wrong learning the latest version of something... but if you can say, get 3 cheap, you'll know the basics.
If you were asking about my site, man, i haven't touched it in FOREVER.
Like 3 jobs ago.
I REALLY need to do it though. |
