I just hooked up my spanky new Geforce3 video card-equipped G4 to my also new Sony FW900 widescreen display. I can't get any widescreen resolutions though.
I know some other folks on the board have FW900s...any suggestions?
Thanks |

Red Leader,
hmmm... take all this with a grain of salt since I don't have any experience with either the card or the monitor: I've heard from 2 sources that there's an incompatibility between your video card and and that monitor. Apparently Apple supports the 16:10 theater modes you're talking about. However, there have been rumors that only some ATI cards are able to access it. Here's the sticker: the ATI AGP version of the Radeon card will supposedly run the monitor. This means if you want those cool aspect ratios, you're gonna have to accept lower the 3D performance of the Radeon to get them. Since you strike me as the kinda guy wanting the resolutions for Photoshop and not Quake try swapping the card out.

Yeah, I might just have to swap down the v-card...I'll talk it over with Apple for a week, and see if Griffin technologies has a converter dongle that will fix this first though.
Too bad... I actually did test Quake 3 out today, and HOT DAMN. I was playing it very smoothly in 1920x1440 mode with all the effects turned on. Sw33t. |
