Hi,
I'd Like to start by introducing myself. My name is Pat Holloway and I'm a HS graduate working for a high end photographer as his scanner/retoucher. Next fall I plan to attend Mass. College of Art or the SMFA Boston. I have been using photoshop for 5 years and study 3-D animation in Hash:AM, photography, and dabble in other arts. I love digital painting when I have spare time at work and with a mouse at home. I really have no community to discuss things with offline so I can really appreciate boards like this and as for joining Sijun I've had cold feet because I am very self conscious of my work and I've been working with a mouse for 5 $%#@'in years except at work! I have been trying to save up for college and a place to stay. I really want to work with a tablet because I know I could do alot with it and I would use it 24/7. It would also REALLY help my art portfolio for college as most of my experience is digital. Here is the point. I would appreciate it if someone could offer their help or an affordable solution. I would really appreciate any support. Thank you.

Hey there,

Nice to see a new face! Welcome Sounds like we're both in the same situation as far as school stuff [I graduated this past june and am going to a digital arts college] .. I've been working on Photoshop for like 3 years I think, and used A:M in school for a year. I did some 3D stuff and am going to do some of it for work now, but have a background mostly in digital painting/drawing.

Hehe, I'm just giving Tablet advice non-stop 'ere. Tablets are funny .. it's a tough decision. If you're just starting out and aren't too picky about having thousands of pressure levels, get a Wacom Graphire 4x5. Those run around 100-150 I think. I'm not sure. The next step up is a Wacom Intuos 4x5, which is kinda pointless if you're ok getting a Graphire. A good sized tablet is an Intuos 6x8, if you're going to be using the tablet a lot, or professionally. These babies run around 330 dollars but are the perfect size and quality for professional artists. I just bought one myself, replacing a cheap one that broke down.

I also posted some stuff on tablets here : http://www.sijun.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=001742 and http://www.sijun.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=001740 .

for you, I recommend a small Intuos 2 over the Graphire, simply because it has a gel grip, and you're planning to use it 24/7.

Wrist and hand pain are major issues for digital artists who work too much, and the gel wide grip that comes only with the newly released Intuos 2 models is definitely worth the extra bucks.

Hope this is helpful.
