i didn't know that there were so many people that liked Brom until i joined the forums. i hate seeing people with great skills merely emulating and pretending that what they do is original. wtf! i mean i've seen some stuff makes me think my stuff is weak, but that's just technical and their works are just copies.
there's a difference between being influenced and being plain out unoriginal.

It's like saxophone players all trying to sound like Charlie Parker or John Coltrane. It's boring to listen to after a while, and you want to hear the voice of the person actually playing.

But you've gotta start somewhere. And making works like your art heroes gives you something to latch onto, some measure of success. It's like reproducing a photograph in graphite or oils or photoshop; if it looks like the photo, it's a success. These are nice tools to use at first, but I think such things can become a crutch later on and then an obstacle to overcome.

Maybe it's better to just copy masterworks while finding your own vision along side.
