I believe I have asked this question before but here goes again. I have a VIA chipset mutherboard bull crap and can't play sound that is otherwise only supported with Sound Blaster [eg. Warcraft 2!!] So I need something that emulates a Soundblaster enviornment... any ideas?

Did you say you can only hear sound from WC2 or you can't?
Not sure about WC2 but WC1 had sound setup with quite a few soundcards supported of that time. |

There is a Gravis Ultrasound emulator out there... but it's pretty shaky still, doesn't work with everything. So if your game happens to be Warcraft 2, then it supports Gravis Ultrasound... you MIGHT be able to get it to work...

Thanks go to Snake Grunger for handing me the link.
Hope it helps.
ps - "Your soundcard works perfectly!".. hehe, I still remember that setup WAV file.. hehe
Seriously though, I hear your cry of pain... I'm a HUGE fan of old games and 'abandonware'... and I hate my SoundBlaster Live! for not even being able to emulate some crappy 44Khz 8-bit mono crap from old games. Sure, there's the whole deal of emulating DMA and IRQ channels and capturing data from such ports, but hey, other emulators do... and 44KHz even at 16-bit isn't THAT much work at all for today's machines... Creative, get your stupid shit together and give us REAL SB Support!

Just follow the installation help on the site above... it worked for me under w2k.

As far as getting an SB16... it's cool if you have PCI slots in your computer... but the new motherboards (including mine) don't have any.
I have an old hybrid AMD 486 133MHz here that I put together just for that purpose... now I'm just missing the DOS SB16 drivers... couldn't find them anywhere when I looked. I also need a real Ultrasound... =)
