not that it will happen, but spending alteast 5-10 hours on your working before posting it would be nice. finished or unfinished.

a workable solution is for moderators to close those threads and move them to work in progress

How did a pencil sketch come to be considered digital? Read the title for these forums, everybody...it says 'Digital Art'. Finished or not, pencil(or pen) sketches shouldn't be in the Finished Gallery (or anywhere else here, if you want to get technical).

Flint, not all of the pencil work should belong to the wip forum. I've seen some amazing pencil work that should really belong to the G/F forum.

Wouldn't a sketch that has been scanned and turned into a digital image (jpeg or what have you) qualify? And what about those people who sketch in photoshop directly? Saying that sketches shouldn't be allowed is a little stupid.

Guys, guys, guys...I'm not saying that there aren't pencil sketches out there that aren't finished and look great...I'm pointing out that the title of these forums is NOT 'Art' or 'Sketches' or what have you...it is 'Digital Art'. And no, scanning a sketch in and doing nothing to it does NOT make it digital artwork, IMO...that's just a silly justification or rationalization to make it ok to post sketches. Does taking a picture of a sculpture and scanning it in make it digital then...? If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck...well, you know the rest. Perhaps if something was done to the sketch such as cleaning up the line work then maybe...but I don't see any of that going on here.

What I've already suggested in another thread in Random Musings is that there be a traditional forum apart from the Work In Progress/Finished Gallery forums for people to post their linework (that which isn't colored) as well as any other non-digital works of art.

The whole point of this being that there are too many people posting random sketch dumps around here that serve little purpose other than to push digital art off the page. Yes, I agree, dr. bang, there are some amazing sketches on the board but for every good one we've got five more less-than-stellar ones clogging up the boards.

So what do you do? Tell the 'good' people to keep posting and rag on the others and tell them they can't post their sketches? No, easiest way is to look at the original intent of the forum and go back to abiding to it. This means NO art that wasn't created by digital means (see why a scanned in sketch doesn't fit this definition?). If pencil sketches are what people want to see then we should have a separate forum for them to lighten traffic.

Did that make sense? Does that seem fair or is it just me

Red Leader, I see what you're saying, but I don't think it's necessary to make an entirely new set of forums for traditional artwork; instead, I think that we need some moderators who are active, and will move/delete threads that don't belong where they are (i.e. a sloppy sketch in the Finished Artwork gallery).

Hey, come on, guys...moderate yourselves if no one is here to do it for you!

Ironically, you are basically complaining about something that you yourselves are doing, namely posting in the wrong category.

Please continue this in random musing, this is not a digital art discussion.

Like Red Leader said, there's a thread adressing this in the Random Musings forum.

I also would like to point out that I have /not/ been strangely quiet throughout the discussion. The Lumental business went out of hand, and I had no reason to be part of it - that had nothing to do with the forum. As for the rest of it, I do have a life on the side, like I believe a lot of you have. Take a look at the number of new posts every single day in the forums, and you might understand why it seems as if the moderators are quiet. There's a WHOLE lot to look through.

Quit trying to blame other people and instead do what you can to help. The only thing /I/ can do that you can't is close and delete threads, and this I do according to the rules that Dhabih gave me. And according to THAT, any finished sketches belong in the Finished Gallery. I might not completely agree with this, but it's his forum.

I did move a couple of them today and I'm not sure if I did the right thing.

Anyway. Now moving this thread to random musings. Quit complaining about posts being in the wrong place when you're not placing your OWN posts in the right place.

(Sorry, I do not mean to come off sounding harsh or rude, I'm just very tired of this whole mess. My apologies.)

=)
