I now for the first time need to model a man's face. I would prefer it to be a heroic type movie star face, a "male lead" so to speak. Type Clint Eastwood or Robert Redford or Burt Lancaster in their 20's - 30's. (That way I'll be able to re-use it for different projects. Whereas if I make him look like more of a character, i.e. David Schwimmer or Drew Carey, I will limit my options down the line.)
Anybody have a nice closeup with good lighting of 'the ideal man'? (Or some good links?) Several shots from different angles of the same person would be a big advantage. I've done some looking, but didn't find any nice big closeups. I thought before I try again I should ask you in case somebody here has a shrine for Paul Newman or something.

Yep, and hey, if somebody thinks they look good enough I'm game to try to use your photos too - but a lot depends on the lighting and angle and lens etc. And I make no promise that the final head will look anything like the reference.
(if you've seen my portrait you know I don't qualify. Sigh. I've also looked at the Loomis project, the male head there is almost perfect but too small and sketchy.)

Yah, Loomis' guys are very standard looking. Why not just expound upon his faces? Personally when modeling I like to leave it a little loose on the reference sketches, just because I like the creative process to continue inside the modeling program. Perhaps that's harder to do in NURBS though. |

The rolling stone photobook, "HotHouse", has alot of good reference pics of people. both men and women. You may want to check that out.
Unfortunately it includes pics of N-sync, and other popstar types, If you can endure that, its a pretty good reference. |

I would suggest Jimmy Smits, but perhaps that would be a biased, personal opinion ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I don't know who the guy is, but the model for Alex Ross's Superman is probably the perfect "hero" you may be looking for. IMHO of course.

Yes, great photo! I'll also try to get that photo book at Amazon.com. Ulf Lundgren also mentions a book "1000 and Broadway" or something, I'll have a look.
