Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and had a question for the painter users.
I Just got a wacom tablet and decided to install Painter Classic. Are there any resources for finding other brushes for it?
The marker brushes I found on the forum only works with painter 6.
Thanks,
Jay |

Jay,
Sorry, this message posted twice and since I couldn't delete the duplicate, I'm editing it with this message. Don't know why it posted twice!

Jay,
Welcome to Painter Classic! It's a neat appetizer that'll most likely make you want to upgrade to a full Painter version once you've explored all the possibilities.
In the meantime, there are six extra Brush libraries on your CD. To find the extra Painter Classic brush libraries, and other materials like Papers, etc., look on the CD in the Free Libraries & Stuff folder. There, you'll find the following folders: Brushes, Grads, Lighting, Nozzles, Patterns, Photos, and Textures. All but the Photos are loaded from the appropriate palette. For instance, Brush libraries from the brush category dropdown list by clicking Load Library and opening the Brushes folder; Papers from the Art Materials palette's Papers section drop down list by clicking Load Libary and opening the Textures folder... etc. To load another Lighting library, go to the the Effects menu, choose Apply Lighting, then click the Library button, and open the Lighting folder.
You may need to copy these files to your hard drive and remove the Read Only status before they can be used. In Windows file manager (I don't know how it's done on a Mac), highlight all of the files and, in the File menu, choose Properties. Then uncheck Read Only and check Archive.
Since Painter Classic is limited in its capabilities, you'll only be able to alter basic brush settings in the Controls:Brushes palette.
The things you'll be able to control there are: Size, Opacity, Grain (amount of Paper texture revealed with a brush stroke), and the option to use either Freehand or Straight Line brush strokes. In addition, the Controls:Brushes palette displays, on the left side, the Primary Color (in front) and Secondary Color (in back).
I mention this because in full Painter versions you can create your own brushes using many more controls and settings than are available in Painter Classic. In addition, there are something like 19 extra brush libraries on the Painter 6 CD besides the default Painter library that's available when Painter is installed. Also, Painter users often develop a new custom brush and share the "recipe" of setting with other Painter users. Unfortunately, Painter Classic doesn't provide these controls so that limits the brushes you'll be able to use to what comes with the program.
Have a lot of fun playing with Painter Classic and when you're ready to upgrade, we'll be around to help you learn and have even more fun.
Happy Painting! |

Thanks Jinny,
I'll post some stuff when I get the hang of it. It's alot different than photoshop! I can see why so many people use it.
