After scouring the net and finding very, very few good tutorial sites for low poly character modeling/skinning, Ive come here thoroughly frustrated with the lack of good help out there.

Any of you who do this often, or for a living - would it be possible for you to share your experience with me - there are things I really want to do, and cant because of the limitations on the amount I know. Help would be appreciated.

There are tons of places for this.
Have you tried
www.polycount.com, www.3dluvr, www.comet-cartoons.

They all have awesome tutorials and how to sections.

the best character modeler I have seen is Bay Raitt. His website www.spiraloid.com has a forum as well. While the work he has posted is outdated and not all that great..He essentially made Nichimen's Mirai, is the lead character artist on the Lord of the Rings and is a just an amazing artist. He has some tutorials on his site.

In particular, Im looking for a clear, concise technique - something that was used to create:

Ive also seen great models and skins by Rorchach. And Im still tryin to get the hang of chilliskinner.

Low Poly Modeling

Low Poly Modeling2

Low Poly Modeling3

These are some links I found. They are for C4D, but they may contain something you can use.

Funny. Each time I hear "skinning" I think of skinning characters with bones, envelopes, and vertex weights... not texturing. Silly me.

Shaded,

If you could be a little more specific about the kind of help you need, I'll be more than happy to try and help. Here is a low-poly 3d model that I am working on for practice:

The model was not created in MAX (it was created in a software package called Realsoft 3D). It was originally created using SDS modeling and then brought into MAX and converted to tri-set polygons. The top image shows the MAX converted model (the blue one). The nice thing about this model (IMHO) is that it is only 514 polys so far!

It still needs a lot of work (Hey! There's no head, hands or feet!) and I know there are some extra polys I can still get rid off, so please don't critique this as if it is a final model .

I think you'd learn more by ditching chilliskinner to be honest. It's a nice little script but in my experienece you spend more time buggering about trying to get it to work properly than you would have spent just breaking it up yourself, and with less control too.

The UVWunwrap options in most modern apps make skinning a character that way unnecessary anyway.
