I had posted this in the Musings forum, and thought better of it, so now its here too:

Hello all, I am (and always will be) a comic book artist. Doing visual storytelling like this translates almost directly to storyboarding.

Now, I've done a bit of storyboarding for a local production company, and I enjoyed it immensely. My question is this, how does one go about getting work on higher budget films? I'm not talking blockbuster here, just films with a decent budget (the one movie I did was all spec work).

Do you submit samples of your work to studios? If so, what is usually the title of the person you want to contact (I'd think that the selection would be made by the director, since this job is all about telling the story).

Basically, I'd like to learn more about the world of storyboarding. So if you've got any advice, horror stories, whatever...please share with the group.

Thanks!

A very decent basic book. This will tell you quite a bit and get you going in the right direction.

P.S. the one negative review makes a few valid points; book is low on lots of detailed techniques, tho' I thought there were lots of good basic examples. But I don't think that's what you're looking for. If you want detailed techniques applicable to storyboarding, get "Shot by Shot" by Katz (if you don't own it already.)

Thanks for pointing this out to me, Quaternius. Despite the negative review, it seems like this book may have quite a bit of info that I could use. I'll be oicking it up soon.

Thanks again!
