I'm a big fan of Ronnie Del Carmen(works in animation and comics). Just wanted to share my love for his work here. I dont think many of you have seen his stuff(except for agent44 and awetopsy). His buddy Shane Glines is quite amazing too(also works in animation).

Ronnie's work:

And here's Shane's work:

Enjoy!!

If you fall in love with their work like I did, then you should visit Shane's forum. It's pretty much a cartoonist's paradise:
The Drawing Board

They both post regularly there, not to mention other talented cartoonists.

Lunatique,

Dude, Thanks so very much for posting this link. I never knew it existed. I remember seeing George Davis' work about 4 yrs ago and his web site went down.....I see that he is on this board, man much appreciated indeed. As well as the others that on there as well....Man a gold mine of xtremely talented people over there.

Again thanks

Yep. I actually found out about that forum when I saw Ronnie Del Carmen posting in Spooge's Guestbook. I emailed him and asked if he was the same one that did Mondo Heat. He then pointed me to the forum and I've been going ever since. The vibe there is very different. It's all about cartooning animation there. Definitely lots of talented people, much like here. The only difference is that I rarely see younger teenagers there.
Also, people are a lot more friendly and encouraging. I've never seen a mean remark there. We have great people here too, but many times things get out of hand with the few jerks we have.

Anyways, glad you found George Davis again.

Visiting there has really inspired me, as it was when I first started visiting here. I used to do more cartoony stuff, and doing it again feels really good. I just put a lot of emotions into the character's expressions and gestures without having to worry too much about realism. That simplified style is really liberating.

In the same vein...here is a painted resin kit from the amazingly talented Mike James. Its bubbleGum sexdrive pop I know, but ITS GOOD bubblegum pop. I wish I could sculpt as direct and clearly as this chap. haven't seen any CG in this veign that even comes close.
The digital creators have got a long ways to go!
The simplification of the muscle planes this guy does, combined with his dead-on-target proportioning, makes for some very solid, sexy work.
I think folks working with the flexibility of CG have no excuse for not being able to nail the proportions as precisely as Mr James does with his chevant.

Tell me about it. I have kits just laying around that I never had time to finish. Fewture kits from japan are also awesome, if you love goth/cyberpunk/horror creature stuff.

I think JoeCool is right. Both CG and sculpting guys have no excuse to not get the proportion and anatomy correct. It's so intuitive and relatively painless to make adjustments in those mediums, and WYSIWYG, so there is no foreshortening as there is in 2D art. There is no "faking" of anything. You just build it as how it should look.
