here's a weird bit of confusion of mine...
those of you who are into character design, where do you draw the line between ultra-fantasy and sensible realism? I mean I know the point of character design is often to get highly stylized, idealized, distilled essences, etc... But... do you ever get hung-up on 'Hey, that's sword is just too fucking heavy to hold' or stuff like that? I have been lately and it's annoying me. |

If it's annoying you, knock it off, then!
Helpful, I know...

Excellent topic.
I've wrestled with that ever since the begining.
My personal view/conclusion is this: If you do awesome design WITHIN the realm of what is possible/practical, it is STILL awesome.
If you do super stylized designs that have no base in reality, then even though it might catch people's eyes, there will always be someone to point out that it's unrealistic/ridiculous.
So, do awesome designs that make sense, and people will love it. |

Giant Hamster: well you went and posted your prize design buddy now TIS MINE TO RIP OFF! ! !
Lunatique: Thanks for sparing a thought. Yeah, I think you're right, I'll always be unhappy leaving the super exagerations and such because I'll know it's not working for at least some people, and that's not what I'm trying to accomplish. Have to find a balance I guess, which is a pain in the ass, but might as well try
