Hey visionary. Search the archives - I think Spooge answered a similar question before.
And also, I think it would help to give you a more tailored answer, if we'd know what you want to make look like chrome. If it's for a logo (80's here we come!!!) than there's more or less a formula that can be applied.
If you want to illustrate something with chrome properties, it's a little bit more difficult.
A starting point from my view would be the assumption that chrome surfaces are basically a mirror that reflects it's enviroment. That can be enormously difficult, depending on the surface topology.
One thing I found is that thinking about the enviroment the object is in helps a lot.
Hmmm ... I could write for hours, but got no time right now. Maybe someone else can be so nice and add to this. I'll try to follow it up with some additions soon.

I was in the process of writing a tut on realistic reflection approximation on surfaces... but... it kind of took the back burner... |
