Has anyone attended the Vancouver Film School? What are your impressions of it? I think I'm going to try and get into its 3d animation course which is 40 weeks long and will cost me close to 40 000 bucks (I'll have to work for a year or 2 plus make a student loan which I think will cover 60% of tuition which is 23 250 ). Before making that big a decision I thought I'd do a bit of research other than their site www.vhs.com which just filtered out the best things said about them and posted them up for us to read.
Their Statistics are pretty good, something like 80% of their students get hired in the field, even though some of the jobs might be crap but what can ya do! Any info appreciated, thanks! |

personal opinion is that its a great school. Its really up to the student. If you go home at 4 to watch wrestling don't expect to get far. You also wont get spoon fed all the info, you should be learning more from yourself and the students around you than the instructors.
Expect no life for those 10 months with a month or two 20 hour days at the end. Its a steep learning curve and a huge step considering the price. You get out what you put in. I worked my ass off, graduated top of my class and got a job right out of school, but watch those employment numbers as they usually are not acurate. I'd say there are 1 or 2 really good reels per class, the rest are average or worse depending on the class, scary when your spending that much money. Its a big step but one I'm glad I made. I've had the chance to work on cg movies, tv series, and now video games since I graduated. I'm also instructing at vfs now part time at nights.
anyway, hope this helped a bit. I would stay away unless your 100% committed to the program as it takes a lot out of you and it's not a place where they lead you by the hand every step of the way, to say your going to have to work hard is such an understatement it hurts. If your willing to put in the effort its a great school. |
