Hey guys..
I'm thinking of buying a new monitor.. Which one would you recommend for a poor student who can't spare more than $500 on one?
I'm basically looking for a nice 19" one since 21" are *way* too expensive :-/
Any help is really appreciated! :-) |

I think I got my 19" Viewsonic for $500. They have a pretty good rep. Sony's are about the same. Side thought- my brother only buys used monitors and has so far made me look foolish. If you can find a good brand used from someone trustworthy it's probably your best buy. (for a student) |

Try Iiyama. They make good monitors for reasonable prices... |

Well... I have a 17" viewsonic right now.
Everything seems to be ok except sides shake a little bit. Not a lot... like 2-3millimeters on each side and it's pretty hard on my eyes after 12 hours at the computer :-/
Is it like that on every monitor? Or should I send mine to repair? It's still on the warranty.
I'd do that but what I'm afraid of is that they will say that monitor is alright. I mean you have to look closer to notice it...
As for brand... I was thinking that Sony would have more quality monitors or am I wrong on that one?
Thanks again |

I have the 19" iiyama VisionMaster Pro 451. It's a very nice monitor with very good colours (the main reason why I chose it) and a very sharp image.. It doesn't have the perfect image quality (there is an almost unnoticeable difference in the color values between the left and the right half of the screen, and I still need to fine tune the image a bit), but we could argue for days whether there is a monitor that has the perfect image quality. It's way better than my 17" CTX monitor which I had before that one It also features an integrated USB hub which is quite convenient for plugging in my Wacom and my MouseMan.
Oh yeah due to some limitations of the new absolutely flat screen technology you have two very slim horizontal shadows (less than a millimeter) on the screen, but as far as I know all screens with perfectly flat screens have them (well except TFT displays but they're a whole other story). You don't even see them on dark backgrounds, and even on white backgrounds I hardly ever notice them because I'm now used to having them. |

Well I sort of fell in love with Iiyama Vision Master Pro 451 after checking out the specs on the website (ports in the monitor itself sound like a damn good idea too since my CPU is on the floor)
... but then called all the computer stores in my area and some of the bastages never even heard about it... :-/
Any ideas? Is it worth the trouble of buying online?
Thanks again! |
