This may sound like a really stupid and incredibly broad question but I'd like to know where you (anybody who's reading) get your inspiration from.
I find my real problem is knowing what to draw. I love drawing portraits but this is all I ever do and I need to diverse a bit. I can't draw out of my head and so I find myself constantly copying stuff out of magazines and it's getting a tad boring now. Just wondered if anyone has got any ideas or tips on how to get started. |

I like to look at comic books and watch movies for inspiration. If i see something cool in the movie, i'll pause it and sketch for as long as it stays paused. I also like to sit-in art history classes and look at slides and draw ones that are neat.

doodle. make things out of the lines. just comes naturally, let your mind make connections, exaggerations... and work more off of emotion then your pattern of just replicating things. it's hard for me to explain creativity because I think it's in everyone as easy as breathing... just let your imagination run wild, basically.
edit: hang-on, I made that sound easy. ok, a big part in opening the flood gates is dealing with your own inhibitions/psychology. do you have a reason NOT to be creative and think new things up? it's not an easy balance, but I assure you there is more to the creative cycle then many people get into of just feeding of other people's work. work at it. try. stick to the parameters of your goal - originality/creativity - and put that through your mind in your decisions. and have fun, don't take it too seriously or you'll lose your desire to do it
