i'm very new at drawing... i'm 25 yrs. old and have always wanted to be able to draw since i can remember. i've always had a very intense and vivid imagination (very distracting at times), but i've never been able to put a pencil to a piece of paper and come up with anything worthwhile.

Soooo...

i picked up that Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain book. Very helpful - i feel like my drawing skills are becoming "organized" in a sense - now i can sit down and "see" things better to draw them.

i'm having a hard time with the perspective lesson on drawing through a doorway, but its coming along.

My main question is this - i'd like to extend my skills further by taking a few drawing classes. Are there any areas of drawing or types of classes i should look for? i live in Dallas, TX, and i'm thinking of looking at classes at one of the community colleges around here, unless someone has a better suggestion.

Thanks... i know i'm a newbie, and i appreciate any help someone wants to offer.

Perhaps i should also mention that my main goal is to first be able to draw fantasy and sci-fi figures and creatures and, second, draw landscapes (mainly along the same genre as well). i'm a programmer by trade, and drawing skills will be very useful in creating my own games (not to mention the sheer satisfaction of putting my mental images onto paper). If i can get decent enough, i'll be getting a tablet at some point.

I would think that any classes you can take involving live models would be extremely valuable. Still life classes are also useful. Basically the most important thing is to draw, draw, draw. It is crucial to draw from real life, especially in a beginning stage (but no less important as you develop). Drawing extensively from life will build up a mental resevoir of images, concepts, and techniques from which you'll eventually be able to draw at will. For help with the figure, go here. Study these pages well, they will help greatly. It takes dedication as well as talent to get to where you want to go, but it is worth the hard work. Hope my ramblings have been of some help!

well if you want to make your own games why not get into 3d art. You can have no talent in freehand drawing and be able to make the best 3d art anyone has every seen.
