I don't know how many of you guys knows about that but there is a guy called Josh Gans, who lives in LA (Santa Monica I think) who created a website entirely made of other people pictures that he signed. The website is: http://jgans.home.mindspring.com/index.html

What's more impressive is that most of the pictures are coming from this forum! I spotted some Fred Flickstone, Micke and other people paintings. So check his site to see if he's not stealing your work.
Then I think we have to take actions and let people in the art, game and movie industry know the name of this asshole so that he will never ever be hired anywhere. You can also send him a nice email. A lot of people already did.

What this guy did doesn't have a name. Maybe he has some psychological problems. Maybe he's just a crook. This is just plain unbelievable.

We have to be sure he'll pay for that.

Not sure when you posted it, but as of 4:30 central time, the only links working are the ones to the Photography section, which may in fact be his. So, getting busted sucks.

to anyone and everyone:
yes..i borrowed many peoples work, and i apologize. i did do many of the works that were up..and many were also me trying to learn from micke, fred and others. i realize many were extremely close and nearly identical in appearance..and i never should have signed my name to them..and i removed the entire site. i apologize to all those who went to the site, and saw the images and were offended or those that i copied from and emulated etc.
some of that work was mine, some was not. i tried to note where it was not and yes..i did have a copyright mark on the main page which just added to the confusion. again, my apologies to all artists with whom i copied, traced, borrowed and emulated.

This is a difference layer of my original drawing over the top of the one on your site. All that shows up is you fucking cowardly signature.

You even kept my naming convention by calling a drawing of a girl "dame". But I suppose it wasn't to hard to take the 03 off the end. All of the clients you claim to have done work for will be getting a letter making sure you are black balled you worthless lying theif.

If I ever have chance to meet you I will snap your neck. You'd be wise to avoid Siggraph or any other computer related conventions because I will find you there. I'd invest in a name change.

Those weren't "copies" from others work - that was flat out theft. you just put your little signature (probably the only original thing on your site) at the bottom of everyone else's work.

Not that we have to worry about you stealing work from anyone here. I suspect it would be obvious in the first few minutes to anyone who considered hiring you where your skill level really was.

Gans, you are knee deep in shit. How did you even for a moment think you could get away with that? How were you going to deliver works of that calibur when the clients ask you for specific works for specific purposes? Scour the entire internet for an image someone else did that might fit the description? What the FUCK were you thinking?!

Look up these words, and learn their definitions by heart: Honor. Respect. Integrity. Honesty. Morality. Pride.

Let this be a lesson to you. Do not repeat this mistake in any way, shape, or form in any area of your life. You'll just make life difficult for yourself. With the broad base/influence of the members of this forum, your name is already blacklisted in the entertainment industry. Don't fuck up other areas of your life. LEARN.

The range in styles of the stolen pics is a dead give away. Not like that other prick who was quite satisfied just raping spooge and micke pics

All I can do is apologize and feel guilty and have it on my consicence. The images have all been removed from my hard drive and the web site. I dont know if it was pourely admiration, or stupidiy, or simply to help me get a job.
I cannot say anymore or feel any worse than i do. I know I let everyone down, including myself. There is not much more I can say except I am sorry.

wow.. this kind of thing seems to be happening quite often around here... which is what makes this so extremely stupid

he would have had to have been reading the forums for quite a while, and certainly should have realized that people do tend to get caught for this kind of thing..

however, he won't be profiting off the stolen work, and now that he's been caught there's not much more damage he can do, so there is no need to send him hate mail or threaten to snap his neck or anything silly like that

there is nothing more i can do or say. all images were taken down immediately. all images were destroyed from my hard drive immediately.
i can do nothing more but apologize over and over. i wont do it ever again. i know you can trust me, nor do i expect you to. however, it is the truth.

I don't even use other people's free models and textures in my own pictures. I somehow feel that (when I first started and tried those 3Dcafe free models on the web and stuff)...that it wasn't really my work. I can't even imagine trying to pass off somebody else's work as mine.

Don't you understand that a lot of these people here, as talented as they are, have a hard time making ends meet? They practice for years and decades to get their skills just right, and that's what they do and, for many, that's their entire identity. And you go along and just steal that and try to pass it off as your own?

What on earth were you thinking? And what if you *did* get hired by a company? What then? How would you last a day in a game company if you can't produce even a single piece of your own artwork? Don't you think they'd notice when you end up not creating anything as a hired artist? Then you'd really be in trouble...and possibly in *jail*, doofus. Didn't you even think about that? It's called fraud and other things like forgery, and it invariably carries a heavy penalty of several years of hard labor where the only thing you can be creative about is how to pick up the soap after you've dropped it in the shower.

If I were you, I'd write a letter to everyone you ripped off, groveling and asking for forgiveness. I know that if it was my work you ripped off, I'd probably press charges just for spite. Having been a photojournalist for many years, I can tell you that this sort of thing is never appreciated involving any media whatsoever.

I've read through all these post. Josh sorry to tell you you're in deep shit (not that you couldn't read that). I'm glad I'm not you cause I like having these guys on my side to help me when I get stuck or help to better my work.

The best thing I can say for you to do (besides become a hermit in the North Pole) is to actually try to do your own work if you want to continue in this field, but I really doubt you'll ever get a job... so in other words sucks to be you!

What you did you knew from the beginning was wrong, so any "I'm sorry"s you say won't mean a thing to any of these guys.

Yes they have some of the best work I've ever seen (

not joking), but I'm not going to steal it, but use it as something to look up to and to guide me with MY OWN WORK, and to know that if with time they can mold their talents to do what they have posted then with time so can I.
