i have been thinking about wanting to do this for a while now, well i am waiting until i get a wacom. I have wanted to go outdoors into nature and try some digital painting, i believe it was monet and a few other artists(which i don't seem to remember at the moment) who were known to do this, with traditional mediums of course. since i happen to use a laptop as my main comp i alway thought it would be cool use it that way.
what do you think?
also i was wonder exactly how many of us forum members use laptops

Painting "Plein Air" with a laptop is not easy. With a decent setup and a tablet, hauling around your equiptment around isn't too much trouble compared to oils, a canvas and easel. However, for me there were two problems: No one's really interested in stealing used oils and some grubby brushes, but a laptop is an inviting target to any passerby. More seriously, I had some terrible time with the screen outdoors. I'm from Texas where it's incredibly bright -- and that washed out the colors quite a bit. In the shade it wasn't too bad, but I don't recommend it for delicate color work. In fact, since most laptop screens are difficult to accurately callibrate the color on, you might be disappointed with your results when you load them up on a decent monitor. FYI, I've had nothing but good luck with Apple's IBook --so maybe it's just older LCD's?

I had better luck sketching. I'm a slow painter to begin with and battery life is never what it's advertised as.
