could anyone give me some pointers on making skin decently? (Being able to see the slight hint of muscle beneath the skin etc.) ie. not have the skin looking like a peice of goodness knows what? |

I'm guessing at exactly what you're asking but here's a stab at it anyway. I'm assuming you're talking about real figures and real muscles as opposed to comic or anime styled work. Then, are you talking about tonal work or color work? For tonal work download all the Loomis pages from the loomis project by Anthony esp. pages 82,83,84, etc. This will also be good for color work as well, since values generally rule. I think what you might be after is the variation in halftones that bring out the more subtle muscle and form definitions -- but I'm still guessing here.
For color work you might also want to start at Don Seegmiller's web site - but I think he's restructuring it so the tutorials section might not be back up yet.
Anyone else?

I suppose I'm sounding really stupid, but what is the Loomis project? And yes I am trying to create a more realistic look as opposed to a cartoon style thing.
thanks |

Andew Loomis is one of the greatest illustrator/teacher of the 20th century. His instructional books on figure drawing and illustration are very hard to find and extremely expensive. Anthony, being the kind, generous human being that he is, started the Loomis Project to scan in his rare Loomis book and put it online for all of us to benefit from. Just search for it on this forum and you'll find it.
