Which Art Schools in the USA have strong illistration programs? I know of schools that have good overall reputations but I want to hear some opinions from a more diverse pool of people.

I attended Syracuse University in your very own state, and they have a very highly regarded Illustration program, from which I got my BFA. The people who teach in the upper-level classes are working professionals. I liked the fact that Syracuse had a strong VisComm program, and yet it wasn't an 'art school'.

You could probably get an even stronger course of study at School of Visual Arts in NYC, but you have NYC and the 'art school' thing to contend with, which I didn't want.

If you are making a serious college decision which involves a load of money and/or effort, the best thing to do is to spend the comparatively small amount necessary to actually visit the places you think you might like to go. That works well, most colleges have good tour programs. You have the added benefit of being in NY state, where you'll be close to a lot of things. Good Luck.

theres an art design school in pasadena, calif. that has a great reputation, although its probably on the more commercial, sterile side. The academy is San Francisco has alot of students and professors. i'm not sure about its reputation. the students get alot of awards for their work. i've hears good things about the pratt? school in new york.

Yeah thanks for the reply, I'm really not worried about where the school are located, I'm not too keen on staying in New York anyway, but if thats where the best is then I guess I might be staying in NY.
