Here's the deal, I am in the process of writing a children's book. The story itself is done & I have started outlining the basic illustrations (sketches w/text) to get an idea of what I want. What I am wondering, I have looked and looked but can't find any info on the "general" requirements & standards for illustrations in children's books. Anybody done any illustrations for this type of book? How about suggestions on where to find any info on the subject. I have been to the library, searched the internet among other sources. Any ideas?

one thing.....the characters need to look the same from illustration to illustration. This is covered pretty well in the "Children's Writer's and Illustrators Market" and maybe the "Artist's and Graphic Designer's Market"

Seen em both...

I don't know maybe I am asking this in my patented "retard" mode. What I am wanting to know is this;

I have done basic sketch outlines of all of the scenes/pages-character studies and such w/Photoshop. So I know all of the who/what/where/when's of the story and what the characters look like from multiple angles. I am basically wondering, if I do the artwork with Photoshop, or some other program what size/resolution should I shoot for in order for it not to be laughed at when I send it to publishers. Just trying to get a general idea of what "usually" is the accepted norm for this type of work.

I've read in numerous books that usually the publishers want to have "known" illustrators do the artwork for the books they publish, however the more I think about that, the more to me it seems like, "write the whole book, get half the money." Just wondering if I should just bite the bullet and send it in sans illustrations. Or send in the preliminary sketches w/the submission... sigh...

Here's a link for you:
http://members.aol.com/thedrawing/

it's a bit low-tech, but has some useful information on children's book illustration if you explore it.

Cool... thanks for the link.

Your right about low-tech

I espescially like the way the light blue clashes horribly with the dark blue when you go into some of the subsections thus making me woozy...
