Since i bought my computer 5 years ago, I always leave window curtain shut. And my room is ALWAYS dark and I really enjoy being in the darkness, it gets even better at night when it's raining outside.

Sometimes my mom come in and open the curtain while i'm working and i can't continue with what i'm doing for some reason. I have to close it back again when she left and i felt better like normal.

So I'm just wondering am I the only one in here who enjoy being in the dark?

yes, I agree, darkness is good, I REALLY hate colorless overhead ambient light...I need a nice yellow lamp in one certain area of my working space at about shoulder hight, it's more atmospheric that way...

ahah...my lighting preference...

I like dark, but from what I've understood, it's really bad for your eyes to look at a monitor for extended periods of time in the dark. So I don't.

I'm not a big fan of daylight, but I put up with it. Personally I think it IS more comfortable looking at a monitor in the dark though. Makes it easier for the eyes to focus on one light source. But any way you do it, staring at a computer everyday is really bad for the eyes. Prolonged focus at a close distance, and at that freakin brightness... not good at all.

That's an old wives tale. You blink less when watching a crt display in darkness, because the refresh of the screen tricks your brain into thinking you are blinking, but that just results in your eyes starting to feel a bit sore after a while. No permanent damage will take place

my old room in Arizona was dark, my parents helped me paint it black and cover it with those tiny glow in the dark stars. looked spacey.

my new room that im in now isn't very dark, i have 4 huge windows and a small window. i keep the blinds up(they go backwards) but they dont help much.

My livingroom, where I keep the computer, is a large room with terracotta coloured walls. When I turn down the lights, the walls appear almost red - a very comfortable, relaxing colour.

It's not exactly dark, but it's warm.

Sometimes, I turn down all the lights apart from the light coming from the fish tank - it gives everything a rather eerie glow, and it makes the walls look deep, dark brown.

If I turn off the lights in the fish tank... and the lights in the ceiling, but keep the windows open... the lights from outside are filtered through the plants in the windows, casting eerie, wonderful shadows across the walls.

Um... I lost track... no, no - I guess I don't have a very dark room. I used to, but I believe colours, lights, and shadows make me happier. I like variation.

I'm a lamp freak so I got 5 of them on when it gets dark (hate overhead light, chandaliers ), though they all have limited light range so most of the light stays close to the lamps but fills the place with good low ambient light. Also have a nice red lava lamp to give off a nice glow and red baby xmass lights around my monitor. Yes! I know Christmass is over but I got used to them when I initially put them up 3 years ago for holidays and when I tried to take them off it felt wrong
All of this light fetish probably stems from the fact that at work I sit in a windowless room with a 'nice' (NOT) neon overhead light (btw tag outside the door says 'equipment room' so... go figure). If you've ever seen 'Joe versus the volcano' with Tom Hanks and what his office looked like, that's pretty much it I used to love sitting in the dark in front of the monitor but because of work dont like it anymore.
