Just returned from the first half of a weekend life drawing course. We drew for 4 hours and will draw for another 4 hours tomorrow.
It was pretty fun, with a pretty good model and pretty good instructions. I'm not sure however whether I've learned anything....

So tomorrow there'll be the second part. I was wondering whether any of you could give me any hints on what to do and what not to do to maximize the learning success, considering that I'll likely not get the opportunity to draw from a model for the next few months.
Thanks,
bugscratch

The stuff from the http://www.antsin3d.com/loomis/ project has pointers on that sort of thing.

Hmm, I'm currently studying anatomy from a book, and constantly wish I had a live model. The reason is so that I could look at things from a different angle to completely understand it's structure in space. I could say "the serratus anterior bulges out here from this view, but what does it do from this other view?" It might disappear completely and I have no way of knowing. Also I'd look for how the same muscles and bones are positioned and shaped differently in different poses.

Yes that's something I realised this evening. I guess that's the effect. You don't remember a certain shape but actually a 3D form in your mind. That enables you, if you do life drawing often enough, to draw the form in poses you have never even seen.

Also, Pigeon, search around a bit. The town where I do this course has maybe 250.000 citizens so I guess there should be something similar in Chicago.
I was surprised enough when I found the course here.
