For those of you who don't know, there's been an art contest going on online organized primarily through the Top Cow Message Boards ( http://www.topcow.com/vbulletin/index.php ). The contest has reached that time where the ink entries are all in and judged (by a superstar cast of judges) and the colors are ready to begin! It's a great way to get your stuff seen and perhaps critiqued by the top pros in the comics field!
So fire up those digital palettes and let's get cookin'!
Also accepted are paints of the entries, so paint if you've got 'em! Watercolors, oils, acryllics, go for it, guys! Imagine the things you can do with a little watercolor and a few colored pencils! Ooo-wee!
And I can guarantee you-- with digital painters and the like entering this year, the competition for the color round will be unlike anything we've ever seen in an art contest online.
And most thought the pencils were frierce, hah.
What's that, you say? Up the ante? The colorist of the eventual winning piece will receive two color guides done in marker by Liquid's own Christian Licthner. Signed and delivered to your doorstep!!
Judges are as follows:
-His holyness, colorist of one of the highest selling books in the last six months, Fathom-- Peter Steigerwald!
-She's been putting out beautiuful colors for longer than I can imagine and her knowledge of color theory is nearly unmatched in our comics field. Planetary, The Authority and JLA colorist among many others, she's an Eagle and Eisner Award Winner-- Laura DePuy!
-He's indicative of one of the hottest new trends in colors in the industry. He is the color stylist on Image's amazing The Red Star, and an unbelievably lovely fellow for putting up with me not having replied to his latest message yet, the dangerous, the sexy, the enigmatic SNAKEBITE!
-Credited co-creator of Witchblade, previous colorist of Spawn, and creator/colorist of Avalon's huge Aria, Brian Haberlin.
-and-
-Possibly the most influential colorist in modern comic history. Of the planetary Battlechasers, the exquisite Soul Saga,, the eternal Darkness/Batman, founder of the newly formed StormWorks Prod, Liquid! Studios' own Christian Lichtner!
Huge thanks to these fine folks and best of luck to you.
Hope to see you all out there!
