I was just wondering about all the stuff a artist needs to go through and all, so if you can answer these few questions I would really apreciate it.
Good Books you can recommend(anything art)?
How/Where did you learn anatomy?
How/Where did you learn color theory?
Which art schools are top notch?
At what age did you feel you became a solid artist?
Who do you think is the best artist in the whole wide world(not limited to the whole world wide web)?
Answer as many as you feel comfortable with, it's all good

1. Anything with a picture. I don't think I have turned down any art book. My personal favorites are: "How to draw the Marvel Way", any Frazetta, any Alfonz Mucha, "The Art of Joe Chiodo", Perspective by Gwen White, and "The Encyclopedia of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art Techniques".
2. "How to draw the Marvel Way" and sketching from photographs.. needless to say I haven't completely learned anatomy.
3. My dad is an oil painter. I would watch and ask him questions when I was little. He gave me a color wheel to play with. (Still learning this too)
4. Don't know..
5. Atleast 40.
6. Jim Kendrick, oil painter from New Orleans. He is my favorite anyways. |

1) Dynamic Figure Drawing by Burne Hogarth, Drawing the Head and Figure by Jack Hamm.
2) Mirror, books, people watching for the most part. I got a lot of help from people though.
3) Didn't really learn it from anywhere.. i just look at art (on this board a lot) and learn what goes together.
4) Top notch as in hard to get into: California Institute of the Arts (calarts), Rhode Island School of Design, School of Visual Arts (NY), Otis College of Art and Design (CA), School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Whew, that portfolio workshop literature was handy.
5) Not there yet, but i've began to study hard this year.
6) A single artist? Jeez. Really admire Rembrandt.

1) I'd say "Industrial Light and Magic" (Into the Digital Realm, and The Art of Special Effects) both are great books for learning about film making, the art and effects, and all the fun and hard stuff that goes into making such great films.
2) I have made a very small ripple into anatomy, learning constantly from here and books, but mostly from people.
3) Learned color theory making websites. That and the color wheel have helped me a great deal.
4) Art Center, Calarts (like already mentioned), and Ringling College of Art and Design
5) I haven't become a "solid artist" I think yet. I think I will have this point of view whenever I can sit down, think of a place, character or situation, and with utmost comfortability and freeness, capture those images on paper or on the computer.
6) A quote comes to mind with this question:
"Art is an adornment and embellishment of life" -by Leo Tolstoy.
The life we live and see, in my mind, was created by God, and we, the artists, are inspired by the world to create images of what we see, or imagine. There had to be something no less than awe at the beautiness of some Lily pads that made Monet want to capture them. And this is true with so many artists, inpiration from the world around them, to capture the sense of beauty and magic. Therefor, the best artist in my mind would have to be God. |

- Good Books you can recommend(anything art)?
absolutely no. if you can't learn it by yourself, you can't learn it.
- How/Where did you learn anatomy?
i didn't
- How/Where did you learn color theory?
"if art director screams, it's wrong, if art director chokes, it's right." / i'm a wee bit color blind. or to put it bluntly, i didn't.
- Which art schools are top notch?
there's such a thing as a good art school?
- At what age did you feel you became a solid artist?
never did and hopefully never will
- Who do you think is the best artist in the whole wide world(not limited to the whole world wide web)?

Good Books you can recommend(anything art)?
Anything by Burne Hogarth
How/Where did you learn anatomy?
Hogarths books...also...
This may seem odd, but... Porn. When I was a kid it was just playboy. For males it was muscle mags. With the internet now its even easier, and free. Download pics from porn news groups. The cool thing about this is you get many diff body styles. If you can get a series then you can have 1 person in many poses. Just try explaining to your friends/family why you have so much porn on your HD
How/Where did you learn color theory?
Comic books, but I still suck at it.
Which art schools are top notch?
Dunno!
At what age did you feel you became a solid artist?
Never have, I'm sure I never will. We should
always be learning and improving.
Who do you think is the best artist in the whole wide world?
For me, to pick any 1 artist would shadow millions of other greats. So I cant' pick.
