Well, I have another question... I'm practicing colouring and want to achieve a chrome effect. But I want the chrome to reflect a red or red-yellow mixture background... but if I justoverpaint my chrome red I doesn't look like chrome anymore...
Here's what I have so far:
And yes, I read the documents from spooge, searched the web for references and already asked several people. But none did help...

Hey, boi!
Well, it looks like metal... like polished steel actually. I am very thankful for your attemot. And it's a cool reference. But you can't really see that there's a redish background reflecting....
or does that always look like that? No matter what's reflected? I doubt, but I am willing to learn |

nah i doubt it would look like that in any enviroment.. i just reshaded it to try to get away from that outdoor sky looking chrome u painted... since chrome just reflects the enviroment.. the blueish tint says to me outdoors with sun and sky lighting.. |

Try adding more white. The reflections would only turn it totally red if all the 6 walls were red and nothing but the weapon were present in the room. As a general rule you can create the surface of a round metal object by drawing lines at an angle of 90 degrees to the object and check what object in space they meet with. That object is reflected at that point of the metal object.
This is actually guesswork but it works for me

S4 -
Not sure, if I can contribute anything helpful here, however, I would start the background first. The higher the reflectivity of the metal your attempting to dubplicate the more you should have the Background done. Afterall, if you don't do it first how can it reflect in your piece.
Also doing a background first forces you to consider and think about the piece as a whole. I'll try to help, you if you can show me the background you're thinking of. And if you're doing just a flat color, then you'll have to either A. cheat, since if you hold a "mirror" (the most reflective "metal" there is) against a flat color - you'll get that flat color; or B.) do the "flat" color...
Hope I can help, though spooge is definitively the expert when it comes to values in metal.

Is the environment TOTALLY red or only the gorund ??? I sky and ground have different hues, shades, whatever of color, try representing that in you reflection, making the gorund reflect in the bottom part, and the sky in the upper.. |

Thank you all so much for your help. I worked a lot on it and I tried to include your suggestions... but it didn't fit at all... well, since time'S rare today I made a fast background to give you an idea what I'm trying to achieve...
the guy who caused the things in the background
Thanks again! Would be cool if you could help me. I owe you a buck.

Not sure if this is helpful. I went a bit sloppy, but I hope the idea comes across. Doing redish/orange lighting is always very difficult, and with the environment you've provided it would basically just reflect red.
This is one of those things, where you are probably better off cheating than going with reality.
